Love is Active

"Let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. whoever does not love, does not know God because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: he sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. Dear Friends, since God so loved us we also ought to love one another." 1 John 4:7-11
Love is a verb. It is active. It gets its hands dirty and opens its heart to others. The kind of love we are learning to practice is both demanding and rewarding. It is love in the particular. Generalities don't cut it. God wants us to love particular persons, in specific situations, by responding to identifiable needs. We aren't called to fix others (or ourselves) as much as to walk alongside while cooperating with God in what God is doing.
We try to run everything we do through the grid of love for God and love for others. Our programs, practices, and priorities stem from working out that love in our daily lives and our life together. We have a long way to go, there are more needs than we can meet, but we're on a journey together being led by tje One who IS Love.
