Who is wise among you?

"The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding." Proverbs 4:7
What is it about wisdom that makes the wise sound so cryptic to the rest of us?
We have so many questions. What is, is not what should be. At least it is not as we think it should be. There is so much to make sense of: warring nations and religions, wealth's pursuit, brokenness and beauty, complicated relationships. It's hard to get a grip. Life feels unsettled, like shifting sand.
It would be great if we could go off to some mountaintop and contemplate the universe. But most of us will never do that. And shouldn't. Real life wisdom, day to day, how to get through the day wisdom is forged in the every day life we lead. It's formed through conversation and reflection, work and rest, in community and solitude. Seeking wisdom is a worthy goal. Being wise in the ways of loving God and loving others is the journey to which we have been called. A journey on which we gladly welcome companions.
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." Js 1:5
