A Center of Hospitality and Service
Cambridge United Presbyterian Church seeks to love God and others in Jesus’ name by being a center of hospitality and service in Southern Washington County (NY.) In a rural county poorly served by social services, with no public transportation, we seek to love God and others in practical ways by providing satellite space for agencies and ministries; by encouraging and housing ecumenical cooperative programing, and by connecting people who have needs, to those who have resources to meet those needs.
We believe that the transformation of our church from a small, aging congregation with old, underused buildings and property into a thriving community of hospitality and service is dependent on sharing our resources beyond our congregation. Through a discernment process our leaders came to realize that our buildings (Sanctuary, Brieman Activities Center, Senior Center) do not shackle our future; instead they are the very tools of our transformation.
Our spaces have become home to Cambridge Community Sunday School, Battenkill Nursery School, Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, and the Cambridge Council of Christian Churches Kid's Camp. As we host and participate in these programs we are growing our sense of ministry. We've only scratched the surface of the need in our community, we've only begun to see how God can use us.
Through the restoration and rebuilding process we hope to make our buildings more useful to our community. Repairing, scraping aand painting the Sanctuary exterior willimpact the landscape of the Village of Cambridge. As we work together with our community, our opportunities to share our faith and love will increase and we will grow in our love for God and others.
