INTERGENERATIONAL WORSHIP*

Maybe this sounds familiar . . .
Yes, Yes, and Yes . . .
Those of us who are trying to follow the way of Christ in Cambridge as Presbyterians resonate with the complexity of life and the yearnings for better for ourselves and for all people.
So we are embarking on an experiment. We want our worship to reflect the length, breadth and width of God’s love and the varied ways that God invites us into relationship through Christ.
Our tradition says that when the people gather; when the Word is proclaimed and shown through preaching and the sacraments; when we support and encourage one another in this way of Jesus, that’s when the church is present. Buildings, organization, and structure, serve only to support living out this kind of church.
So our worship service reflects our vision. We're calling it Intergen Worship.
This is what we hope to be.

We will set the standard of Romans 12:10 concerning preferences and disagreements seeking to “Love one another with genuine affection; outdoing one another in showing honor.” Our hope is that this new approach will strengthen our love for God and others in Jesus’ Name. Would you be interested in joining us as we stretch our hearts and minds to embrace God’s love for the world? We would welcome you with open arms.
- On some level I guess we should take the kids to church, but Sunday mornings are the only family time we’ve got. It’s so nice not to have to rush around getting everybody to school or work or sports; just one morning a week when we don’t have to go anywhere.
- I’m not interested in people who are so sure of themselves with beliefs that are so hard and fast that they can’t listen or accept people who are different than they are. Churches attract a lot of that kind of people.
- I’m a very spiritual person. I don’t want the structures or limitations of organized religion.
- We’ve decided to let our kids make their own decisions about faith. We don’t want to cram any one religion down their throats.
- I was part of a church once. It was good in the beginning. Then it went bad. Really bad! I’m not up for that kind of disappointment and betrayal again.
- I want to belong to a group that respects and cares for each other and the earth. I need to be supported in the kind of life I believe is right.
- My children ask questions about God, religion, death, and I don’t know how to answer them. I’m not sure I even know what I believe.
- I’m tired of always feeling guilty. I don’t know how to forgive myself let alone forgive others.
- I believe in God but I’m not sure how that has anything to do with my everyday life.
- There’s so much to do, I’m always running around. It’s hard to catch my breath or just find some quiet.

- Our worship cues will be projected.
- Assistive Hearing devices will be available. Our sanctuary is now ADA accessible.
- Children and youth will have opportunities to serve and lead in all aspects of worship. Interactive readings of Scripture and congregational participation will help people of all learning styles ‘taste and see that the Lord is good!’
- A special coordinated activities space for children in the Sanctuary will help them respond to God’s Word on their level. Adult guides will help them explore God’s love and lesson each week.
- Our music will help us respond to God. We will use different instruments and styles. We’ll praise, cry out, declare, and admit our need using the music and accompaniment that best helps us express ourselves. We’ll depend on people’s artistic gifts to enhance our worship.
- We will value listening, deep listening, to God and one another encouraging ongoing meditation and conversation by providing additional materials for reflection.
