Guatemala Immersion Trips
Just as the best way to learn the grammar of your first language is to learn a second; one of best ways to appreciate your own culture is to be immersed in the culture of another. Since 2014 CUPC has sent groups to Guatemala to be exposed to a culture of resiliency and determination. Thirty years of war between the government and rebels has left lasting scars on the people especially the indigenous people. Yet the strength and everyday courage of Guatemalans is humbling.
In 2018 our team spent the first half of their week in Guatemala City where they were hosted by CEDPEDCA (An ecumenical organization that provides disaster relief, immersion experiences and seminary education.) The second half of the week they traveled to Pachaj, a small native village where they provided support for a dental clinic, painted children’s teeth with fluoride and dug the foundation trenches for a new community center.
Our next trip is scheduled for 2020 and is open to the community.
